...that contracting without the proper license can carry serious penalties. Ever heard of the saying "Ignorance of the law is no excuse" in the criminal context? The same applies to the civil world and contractors. There can be licensing laws in your county or state unbeknownst to you, yet you can potentially be held in violation. All it takes is one bad apple, a ticked off worker, contractor, or homeowner, to direct the spotlight at you, and there can be serious consequences with your state's licensing board and in a court of law should a dispute arise.
